Tom Lind
I am a longtime student of traditional ways and “primitive” technologies. Inspired by not only the ability to thrive without modern conveniences, but the incredible artistic skills embedded in many of the things used for everyday life. Those items used for ceremonial purposes whether in tribute or worship sometimes exhibited levels of artistic ability and patience that are awe inspiring. I have tried to duplicate in stone many of the original forms of stone tools, weapons and ceremonial items using the same basic techniques our ancestors used, following the same types of inspiration such as the reverence of the beauty of nature and the sacred nature of the material itself. Every stone has its own character and personality. When combining my personality with the stones to create a work of function and beauty, or sometimes just beauty, the results are always unique. It’s an ever evolving journey, learning more about function and techniques, most of which were lost and had to be rediscovered one step at a time.
